When Pastors Gather: The Unity That Shapes a City

Every week in Devonport, pastors from across the city gather — leaders from different churches, traditions, and backgrounds — coming together to pray, share, and seek God’s direction for their city.

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.” — Psalm 133 : 1

It’s a simple rhythm, but one with deep spiritual power. Around the table there’s no need for titles, logos, or egos — only brothers and sisters in Christ, united by purpose, humility, and prayer.

As Paul wrote, “Make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.” (Philippians 2 : 2)

In a world that often celebrates competition, these pastors model cooperation. They remind us that the Church was never meant to be a collection of rivals, but a community united under one Lord and one mission.

We believe this godly example starts here. When pastors choose humility and unity, it flows outward,

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” — Ephesians 4 : 3

— through their congregations, chaplains, mentors, and ministries — serving schools, neighbourhoods, and workplaces across Devonport.

Each congregation continues to make its own faithful contribution every week — serving, teaching, visiting, and caring in countless unseen ways. Yet when these efforts move in harmony, something more happens. Unity doesn’t replace individual ministry; it amplifies it. The collective witness of one Church working together magnifies the Spirit of who Jesus is — a reconciler, a reuniter, a restorer of relationships. Division was never His way. Our unity outwardly demonstrates the true heart of Christ to our city — a love that heals, reconciles, and draws people together under one hope.

That unity isn’t just an ideal; it’s being lived out across Devonport.

In From Dawn to Dusk — Devonport Prays Together, churches from every part of the city came together for a full day of prayer — from sunrise to sunset — standing side by side in faith and hope for their community.

At Christmas, the Here to Serve initiative once again brought churches together on the streets — offering kindness, prayer, and presence to thousands across Devonport’s busiest season. You can sign up here for this Christmas – Here to Serve

Through Together for Easter — A City United in Hope, believers from all backgrounds gathered as one to celebrate the risen Christ, proclaiming that Jesus is still the hope of our city. We are looking forward to coming together next year, EASTER 2026, Thursday 2nd April 2026.

Every day of the year, Devonport Chaplaincy stands as the united expression of the Devonport Church — one body working together to place chaplains and mentors in schools and workplaces, offering care, guidance, and hope in Jesus’ name.

And most recently, The Way: A City Walking with Jesus invites followers of Christ across the region to journey together in discipleship — rediscovering what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life. Be a part of  The Way: A City Walking with Jesus 2026

When we walk together, the city feels it. When we drift apart, we feel it too. Rivalry diminishes blessing, but unity multiplies it. Each week’s gathering carries the quiet conviction that we are stronger together — one Church serving one God, for one city.

And it’s working. Hope is being shared. Kindness is being delivered. The Church in Devonport is showing that when leaders stand together in prayer and purpose, a community is transformed — from the top down, and the inside out. Unity isn’t optional; it’s essential. When we stand shoulder to shoulder, the presence of God moves freely, blessing flows, and the whole city feels the difference. Devonport stands by it — one Church, many gatherings.

That they may all be one… so that the world may believe.” — John 17 : 21

That’s the power of walking together, and it’s changing the story of our city.
