Together for Easter – A City United in Hope

Last night in Devonport, churches across our city gathered as one.

One Church—many congregations—came together to celebrate the true meaning of Easter: that Jesus Christ, who was crucified for our sake, is now risen—defeating death, offering forgiveness, and bringing new life to all who believe.

It was a powerful night of worship, communion, testimony, and unity. We prayed for our chaplains, our communities, and for Mayor Alison Jarman—someone with a deep heart for our city and its people. Together, we reflected on the Lord’s Prayer and what it means for God’s Kingdom to come here, in Devonport, as it is in Heaven.

As part of the night, we were invited to respond personally—placing names of loved ones at the foot of the cross and praying that they would find the hope only Jesus can give. It was a sacred and moving moment.

A phrase often spoken by Pastor Brian Webber—Heavenport—was shared again. It captures our heart for Devonport: to become a city where heaven touches earth. We’re thankful that Mayor Jarman has chosen to reflect this vision in print, recognising its significance to our churches and community.

If you don’t yet have a church community, Easter weekend is a great time to visit one of the many services happening across our city. You’re always welcome.

Let’s keep praying. Let’s keep believing. And let’s keep building a city marked by hope.
