From Dawn to Dusk: Devonport Prays Together

Devonport’s churches came together in an extraordinary way on Sunday 14th September, lifting one voice in prayer across the city—from dawn to dusk, culminating in a powerful evening gathering at C3 Church.

A Day of Prayer Across the City

From 6:00am to 6:00pm, church buildings, homes, and prayer rooms across Devonport were filled with people interceding for their city. Individuals, families, and groups carried before God the needs of households, schools, workplaces, and the wider community.

What many thought would feel long often felt far too short. As one participant put it, “We thought the hour in the prayer room would be too long but in the end, it was too short.” Others reflected on the gift of stillness, saying, “We loved sitting in silence for half our time together.”

The prayer points were simple but weighty—hope for those doing it tough, strength for schools and leaders, resilience for young people and families, and revival and salvation across households in Devonport.

Worship and Prayer at C3

By evening, over 100 gathered at C3 Church Devonport to bring the day’s prayers together in a powerful time of worship and intercession. The gathering opened with the well-known song How Great Is Our God and flowed through prayer segments led by local leaders: Simona Piscioneri / Church of Christ (salvations), Craig Guntrip / Village Church (Gen Z), Ettiene Di Wilzem / Pathway to Life Church (those doing it tough), Sharon Webber / C3 Church (leaders), and Andrew Hillier / Village Church (deeper discipleship).

John Lee Archer / Catholic Church then guided the gathering into silent prayer, inviting everyone to “be still” before God. It was a moment that resonated across generations.

Closing in Praise

The evening closed with worship, voices rising together in Worthy of It All and I Exalt Thee. Pastor Brian Webber then led a final time of prayer, inspiring the church with the intercession of the day and sending everyone out with a renewed sense of unity and mission. His words carried both gratitude and urgency, reminding all present that what had begun in prayer must continue in action.

The sense of unity was deeply felt. As one participant summed it up:

“This is my favourite expression of the churches working together. Spiritual acts of unity like this will always overflow into physical responses in our city.”
