What are we praying for ?
We’re keeping this simple.
Prayer isn’t about using spiritual jargon or ticking boxes. It’s about turning our hearts toward God and lifting up the people, situations, and needs right in front of us each day.
We pray because God is real, people matter, and hope changes everything. Prayer is also about taking time to listen to God, resting in His presence, and allowing Him to shape our hearts. It’s the full gamut of prayer, praise, thanks, intercession, repentance, listening, and obedience, all flowing from relationship with Him.
Here are some starting points:
Those doing it tough – people facing poverty, addiction, anxiety, isolation, or just trying to keep afloat. May they know they are not forgotten.
Young people and families – for identity, resilience, strong relationships, and peace of mind in a noisy and uncertain world.
Schools, community leaders, and frontline workers – for strength, wisdom, and rest for those who show up day after day for others (1 Timothy 2:1)
World peace and reconciliation – that nations and leaders would pursue justice, mercy, and peace; that conflicts would cease, violence end, and broken communities find healing. Pray especially for wisdom in diplomacy, courage for peacemakers, and comfort for those caught in the midst of war and unrest (Matthew 5:9; Isaiah 2:4).
Our churches and leaders – for humble leadership, boldness, and a spirit of unity as we walk this out together as a city (Ephesians 4:1–3).
A fresh openness to Jesus – in homes, workplaces, schools, cafés, and quiet corners of our city (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Salvation and new life in Christ – that many would respond to God’s grace with repentance and faith, receiving the gift of salvation through Jesus. Pray that hearts would be awakened to the gospel, lives transformed, and whole households, families, people come to know the hope found in Him (Romans 10:9–10; Acts 16:31; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
Stirring deeper disciples of Jesus – that we would move beyond mere belief or label and live as wholehearted disciples who love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and love our neighbours as ourselves (Matthew 22:37–39). Pray that our faith would bear fruit in obedience, character, and sacrificial love, shaping a people marked by Jesus’ presence.
Mobilising everyday Christians for service – that God would awaken and mobilise everyday believers—teachers, shopkeepers, farmers, students, and tradespeople—to take their place in His plan, using their gifts to serve with humility, love, and unity, so the whole Body is healthy, growing, and full of love (Ephesians 4:16).
Listening to God together – prayer is not only about lifting our requests but also about pausing to listen. As we cover our city and world in prayer, let’s take intentional time to be still before God, opening our hearts to His voice.
Consider: A Listening Posture
Personal: Invite the Spirit to highlight a person, situation, or truth from Scripture that He wants to impress on your heart.
Corporate: After our day of prayer as One Voice we will come together as the gathered church of the city at C3 Devonport, 7:00pm Sunday. Be attentive to the common threads God may be weaving among us—whether through words, Scriptures, or impressions. After a short time of worship in song, there will be opportunities throughout the hour to pray together in groups with others from across the Devonport church.
As we pray through these points, we ask God to meet people right where they are across this city—to soften hearts, bring light into darkness, awaken people to His love, and stir something deep and lasting.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” — Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV)
Let’s keep it real. And let’s believe in the power of prayer.
Spiritual Unity & Public Witness
This day isn’t just about private prayer—it’s also a public witness.
When we pray together across Devonport, we declare to our city:
The Church is united. The Church is praying. The Church is here.
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.” — Psalm 133:1
Let’s Finish It Together
To close the day, we’ll gather for a combined citywide prayer meeting at 7:00pm at C3 Church Devonport—a time of worship, reflection, and united intercession as we lift one final prayer together, in One Voice.
Let’s cover Devonport in prayer—hour by hour, heart by heart.
One heart. One Spirit. One Voice.
