Rhythm – Making Space to Be with God

Over the past five years, I have grown deeply in my understanding of what it means to walk with God. One of the most important lessons I have learned is the value of rhythm in the Christian life — especially rhythms that create space simply to be with Him.

For much of my life, I approached faith as something to do. Learn more. Study more. Serve more. Process more. While all of those things have their place, I have come to realise that God’s primary desire is relationship. He wants to be with us. Not for productivity. Not for performance. Simply for presence.

That shift has changed everything for me.

Creating Space for Presence

One rhythm that has become particularly meaningful is setting aside time each Friday morning. It is not a time for recreation or distraction. It is a time to sit still.

I listen to worship music — often songs that have stayed with me throughout the week. I reflect on the events of the past few days. I take time to meditate and pray. Sometimes my prayer is simple:

“God, you are good. Thank you. I am grateful.”

These moments are not complex. They are not driven by an agenda. But they are powerful.

The Gift of Intentional Rhythm

I have learned, perhaps later in life than I would have liked, that intentional rhythms matter. When I consistently make space for God, I emerge refreshed, encouraged, and grounded again in gratitude.

There is something transformative about stillness. In a busy world filled with noise and responsibility, choosing to pause reshapes the way I see my week, my work, and the people around me.

Jesus modelled this rhythm. He stepped away from crowds and demands to pray. He created space for communion with the Father. If He needed that rhythm, so do we.

An Invitation

If you are feeling stretched or distracted, consider what rhythms you might establish to simply be with God.

Not to achieve.
Not to learn more information.
Not to accomplish a task.

Just to encounter His presence.

Those quiet moments may become the most formative part of your week.
