Everyday Faith – Following Jesus Beyond Sunday

Everyday Faith – Following Jesus Beyond Sunday

One of the challenges we face as Christians today is that faith can quietly become something we practise once a week rather than something that shapes every day. It’s easy for Sunday to become the container for our faith — and everything outside of it to carry on as normal.

But that was never what Jesus had in mind.

More Than Believing the Right Things

In Practicing the Way, John Mark Comer reminds us that following Jesus was never primarily about believing the right things. It was meant to be a way of life. Jesus didn’t invite people to attend a gathering or agree to a set of ideas. His invitation was far simpler — and far more demanding: Follow me.

To follow Jesus means learning to shape our everyday lives around Him. Our habits. Our rhythms. Our relationships. The way we treat the people we encounter.

Fruit Grows in the Ordinary

Jesus says in John’s gospel: “I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me, I will remain in you, and you will bear much fruit.”

That kind of fruit doesn’t grow only on a Sunday. It grows in the ordinary moments — choosing patience when we’re frustrated, showing kindness when it’s inconvenient, taking time to pray for those around us, being willing to share hope with someone who needs it.

Discipleship is about being with Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and doing what Jesus did. And it happens in those small, unremarkable moments of everyday life.

An Invitation to Everyday Faith

Imagine if we each committed to living out our faith in the places and spaces God leads us throughout the week — not just within the walls of a church building. Imagine the ripple effect that would have across Devonport.

That’s the invitation. To be the light of Jesus to this city — in our workplaces, our streets, our neighbourhoods, our homes.

Will you join us in practising everyday faith, every day?

May God bless you as you serve Him for the glory of His kingdom.
